This event is probably the city's most coveted weekend event, and thousands flock to Natchez to catch a glimpse of the colorful hot air balloons in the skies over the city. After the morning flight has concluded, the gates of the bicentennial gardens at historic Rosalie open to festival goers who tote their lawn chairs and blankets to a good spot for listening to an afternoon of regional music. There are regional food vendors on the grounds and a variety of beverages are available. On Friday night there is a balloon glow at the festival site, and a number of balloons set up to glow on the levee across the Mississippi River. Following the balloon glow, fireworks are shot from a barge placed in the middle of the river, providing a spectacular glow for spectators. Hotel rooms for this cherished event fill up rather quickly so book early. The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race is always scheduled on the third weekend in October. Check out the event calendar on our homepage for more information, or visit their website to see who's headlining this years entertainment.
