First Timer's Guide

  • Our historic homes are the jewels of Natchez, open to visitors for tours or an overnight stay. For your first tour experience, Longwood is the unique property you never knew you needed to see. And the Guest House Historic Inn is the perfect overnight spot to dig into the building’s history.
  • To get a feel for the town, we recommend making a stop at the Natchez Visitor Center. The knowledgeable staff can help map out your trip and offers free brochures, maps, and other resources. Be sure to snap a picture of the MS River from the walk out overlook.
  • One of our local favorites will soon become yours too! Fat Mama’s Tamales is known all over the world for their signature entrée - the tamale. Their fire and ice pickles are pretty special too! And if all your touring around town has you thirsting for a beverage, order a Knock You Naked Margarita to wash down your tamale.
  • The only thing better than waking up to a Natchez sunrise is watching our sunsets! Order another margarita to go as you enjoy our “Downtown Go Cup District.” A short walk to our 200-foot loess bluffs and you will have to best seat in town for our one-of-a-kind sunsets.
  • You work hard. Sometimes you need to relax and let loose. And at Under-the-Hill Saloon, it is hard to do anything but have a good time. Who does not love listening to good, live music while gazing out at the mighty Mississippi River?
  • No one likes waking up early on vacation- unless, of course, The Donut Shop donuts are involved. When you sink your teeth into their sugary sensations, you will instantly know you’ve discovered something amazing.
  • What better way to experience our city than in a horse-drawn carriage? Listen and learn from your guide’s narration as he points out landmarks of historical significance. Enjoy the architectural charms of the buildings that surround you. Soak in the relaxation that hits you as the wind whips around you.
  • If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, be sure to stop by Rolling N’ The Dough and try one of the gourmet edible cookie dough flavors. Whether cookie dough, iced coffees, or one of their homemade sweet, baked treats, this shop will please every member of your party.
  • Sadly, it is time to go home. But before you leave, you must get souvenirs for those you left at home. Old South Trading Post has options galore. From t-shirts and pralines to books and an assortment of dips and delights. One stop here, and you will be coming back for more.
