The Great River Road National Scenic Byway follows the course of the Mississippi River. The scenic route passes through 10 states and hundreds of river towns. It's America’s oldest and longest National Scenic Byway, so it makes sense that it’s also home to a lot of history and unique attractions.
This Scenic Byway is a well-marked series of different roads and highways that roughly follow the winding course of the Mississippi River.

Throw the sunroof back, roll down the windows, and slow-cruise the historic corridor of the Natchez Trace. Stretching 444 miles from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee, the trace encompasses 10,000 years of trade and travel history. Today it serves as a scenic highway hosting hikers, bikers, campers & motorists who know how to squeeze all the goodness out of life.

Juneteenth is the oldest known holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, and Natchez is the oldest city in the state of Mississippi. Between 1833 and 1863, it was the site of the second largest slave market in the country, second only to New Orleans.
